The musings (and ramblings) of David Felstead

Hi everyone – this blog is just my little space on the web to record my thoughts and experiences in the realm of software development at Site5, the world’s greatest web host.

My name is David Felstead, and while I’m originally from Melbourne, Australia, I now live in Redmond, Washington, USA, with my wife (Jacquelyn) and four kids. I’ve been programming professionally since around 1999-2000, working with pretty much any technologies you can think of – Java, C, C++, various flavours of assembler, Visual Basic, ASP, Javascript, Perl, PHP, C#, and of course, more recently, Ruby and the fantastic new web framework Ruby on Rails. Right now, I’m working on various web technologies at Live Search at Microsoft, which is amazingly interesting.

This site is more or less a notepad for me to keep track of those coding epiphanies that occur once in a while. My view is that a great number of developers in the world just don’t get it when it comes to developing software – programming, like anything else, can be thought of as a reflection of our everyday lives – we reap what we sow. By keeping an open mind, having a little common sense, and treating your projects with respect, you will make your life and the life of your eventual successors a whole lot easier.
